State Highway 68 opens to traffic

MANKATO — The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) reported State Highway 68 from State Highway 15 to just west of Blue Earth County Road 24 (south of Courtland) opened to traffic at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 2.

The highway was closed due to a mudslide earlier this week. Department of Transportation crews are doing emergency repairs to mudslides on Highway 68 but have determined that it is safe to allow traffic to return.

MnDOT crews will continue to monitor the area closely and advise motorists to use caution in the area, especially if there is more rain.

State Highway 93 from U.S. Highway 169 to Henderson was closed at 2 p.m., June 29 due to Rush River flooding. The highway remains closed as flood waters recede.

It appears repairs may be needed before the highway department can safely open the highway. Motorists can use State Highway 19 as an alternate route.

State Highway 99 east of State Highway 13 closed at about 10 a.m., June 30 due to a failed culvert. Highway 99 remains closed for repairs until further notice. Traffic is detoured to State Highways 13, 21 and Le Sueur County Road 3.

When a road is closed, it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from a closed road, other expenses and penalties will apply.
