NEW ULM — More than a dozen members of a local group that calls itself Equity for New Ulm protested the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis by carrying signs on Center Street, from Martin Luther College (MLC) to Broadway Saturday.

The demonstration was similar to one led by Casey McMullen a week ago that included a number of people gathered with signs at Center and Broadway.

The group that included college age people and other residents, carried signs that read “Black Lives Matter, I Can’t Breathe, Justice For G.F. (George Floyd), Peace For Minneapolis, If You Want peace, Work For Justice, and End The Killings, The System Must Change.”

“We’re a group of individuals coming out to promote institutional revision and act in solidarity with Black Lives Matter,” McMullen said.

A number of passing motorists honked their horns in approval of the peaceful protest as demonstrators waved back at the motorists.

“Get it right. All lives matter,” said a Herman Monument construction worker as the group walked by.
