Car trouble leads to drug charges

NEW ULM — Car trouble led to four drug charges against a North Mankato woman in New Ulm May 31.

Drug possession charges were filed in Brown County District Court Tuesday against Stephanie S. Steiner, 23, 2146 Elaine Lane, North Mankato.

According to court documents, New Ulm Police saw a vehicle traveling east on 7th Street North at Washington Street with loud exhaust, lunging while driving, then pulling to the side of the road near Washington Park.

A witness in the vehicle, identified as Dustin C. Tolzmann, 28, 523 Mound Ave., Mankato, told police he was having tire issues but refused a tow that was offered.

Police learned Tolzmann’s driver’s license was revoked and an active order prohibited contact between himself and a vehicle passenger, Steiner. Officers arrested Tolzmann.

Steiner asked to retrieve her belongings from the vehicle before it was towed.

While talking to Steiner, police noticed a small black cardboard package, believed to be tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) cartridge packaging, and smelled a marijuana order in the vehicle.

Steiner admitted there was a grinder and weed in the vehicle center console. Police searched the vehicle and found many drug-related items.

The total THC concentrate weight was about 3 grams and 2.5 grams of marijuana.

Steiner had a prior marijuana conviction in Nicollet County Court.

In addition, charges of drug possession, violation of a no-contact order, uninsured vehicle, driving after revocation, failure to deliver certificate of title and other charges were filed against Tolzmann, Tuesday.
