Contactless pickup popular at library

NEW ULM — The New Ulm Public Library was booked solid Monday, taking orders for contactless pickup.

From 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. patrons can contact the library to set up a pickup time for material on hold. A 15-minute appointment will be made for patrons to collect the material and staff will pull the items, check them out, and put them in a plastic bag on a table outside of the southwest parking lot doors. The bag will be labeled with the patron’s first name and the last 4 digits of the patron’s library card number.

The library requests at least two hours in advance to set up a time to pick up items.

Library Director Paullina Poplawska said Monday was busy for the library with fully booked appointments and calls continuing to come in for orders. Most of the first orders were from patrons with holds on material from before the shutdown.

Materials are limited to items already in the library’s collection. Patrons may request items from other libraries in the Traverse des Sioux Library System but New Ulm Public Library cannot guarantee availability because of library closures and infrequent delivery throughout the region.

Library staff are working with city and state officials to make plans to reopen the library when it is safe to do so. Please check www.newulmlibrary.org, the library’s Facebook page (New Ulm Public Library-City of New Ulm), and other local media outlets for future updates.
