Commissioners to get COVID-19 update

Will consider extending county building closure to May 4

NEW ULM — Brown County commissioners will receive a COVID-19 (coronavirus pendemic) update from public health and emergency management staff on Tuesday, April 21.

Staff will present a situational update, protective recommendations, community mitigation and public health’s role and current activities in the local, state and worldwide constantly-evolving pandemic.

As the disease continues to spread, hospitalzations and deaths increase across the state. There are strategies and recommendations in place to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

Commissioners will also consider:

* Extending the closure of county buildings until May 4, 2020, or as along as Gov. Walz has a Stay at Home Order in place. On March 24, commissioners approved locking all county buildings effective March 24 through April 27 due to the safety of the public and employees due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Walz has since extended the Stay at Home Order until 11:59 p.m., May 3, 2020. It is possible Walz will extend the order again, which is why commissioners are asked to consider extending the building closure as long as the order is in place.
