Drop box back up at license bureau

NEW ULM — Beginning Tuesday, April 7, the Brown County License Bureau will once again process the following motor vehicle transactions:

Initial and renewal regitrations

Duplicate titles

Special plate applications

Title transfers

New to fleet title/registration applications

Dealer work

Vehicle permits

It should be noted that face-to-face transactions are still prohibited. Customers may mail transactions to the Brown County License Bureau at 1900 N. Franklin in New Ulm or use the drop box available in the main entrance. The drop box will be available to customers from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Customers should practice social distancing when dropping off transactions to be processed. Staff asks that only one person be in the lobby at any given time. Please use the window to verify that the entryway is clear before opening the front door. If it is not, cones have been placed on the sidewalk to assist in maintaining six feet of social distancing while waiting.

All transactions will be processed within 24 hours and returned via mail.

Staff strongly suggests customers visit the Brown County website at www.co.brown.mn.us for more detailed instructions and links to retrieve forms. If you do not have access to the internet or need further assistance, phones at the License Bureau will be answered from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The office will be minimally staffed so leave a message and staff will return your call ASAP.

The License Bureau cannot process driver’s license and ID cards under Executive Order 20-20. A law was passed that extends the expiration date for any valid driver’s license, instruction permit, provisional license, operator’s permit, limited license, and farm work license that would expire during the peacetime emergency. The expiration dates for these licenses will be extended for two months after the month the peacetime emergency ends.
