Trees removed

A crew from Zinniel Tree Service in Sleepy Eye went to work Monday morning to remove trees in German Park to clear the area for the German Park Amphitheater restoration project. A total of 17 ash trees have been tagged for removal, according to Park and Rec Director Tom Schmitz. All of these would probably have succumbed to the emerald ash borer, which has been found in New Ulm. The German Park projects will continue this week. M.R. Paving will be doing the excavation work, and concrete terraces will be poured later. Schmitz said the project is expected to be completed later this summer. The city is still seeking donations for the shade structure portion of the project. Another $300,000 is needed. Anyone who would like to donate, or who has questions about the project, can contact Schmitz at New Ulm Park & Rec.
