Masks can be made at home

NEW ULM — With medical resources stretched to limits during the COVID-19 crisis, Allina Health and other health providers are calling for donations of face masks.

Supplies of these masks are limited, but the public can help by making them at home. The only material needed for the masks are cotton fabric and rope elastic. Beading cord elastic will work (you may also use 1/8” flat elastic). Cut the elastic 7″ long and tie a knot at each end (DO NOT knot the ends of the flat).

Step by step instructions for creating the mask are posted on the Allina Health webpage. https://www.allinahealth.org/-/media/allina-health/files/mask-sewing-how-to.pdf. Video tutorials on making the masks are also available on YouTube.
