COBDEN — A Central Region Cooperative (CRC) semi truck carrying a full propane tanker collided with a Canadian Pacific train on the tracks near the intersection of County Road 7 and Center Street in Cobden around 12:37 p.m. Wednesday.

No injuries were reported by either the semi driver or train conductor/engineer. The semi truck driver was identified as James Schroeder, 49, of Fairfax. The train conductor/engineer was not identified.

Teams were working Wednesday evening to clean up the resulting propane spill. Some residents around the area were without power while the leak was being contained.

Power was restored to the City of Cobden by 7:30 p.m., law enforcement said. County Road 7 remained closed. People were warned to avoid the vicinity of County Road 7 and the railroad crossing.

Agencies involved included Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol, Sleepy Eye Fire Department, Mankato Fire Department Chemical Assessment Team (CAT), Sleepy Eye Ambulance, Canadian Pacific Railroad, CRC, and Maloney’s Towing Enterprises.

Authorities urged drivers to use caution at all intersections, come to a complete stop at all stop signs/semaphores and always check both ways when crossing a road or railroad tracks.
