Two fatalities in area

The Minnesota State Patrol was investigating two crashes in the New Ulm and Nicollet area that led to fatalities Monday. Above, The New Ulm Fire Department was called to a crash on a mutual assist by the Courtland FD to a crash involving a semi tractor trailer and car near the U.S. Highway 14 and 20th South Street (Nicollet County Road 37) intersection at 1:24 p.m. Monday in which a 45-year-old New Ulm woman died. The crash closed the highway for most of the afternoon.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2019 Volvo tractor truck was eastbound on Highway 14, driven by a 44-year-old Roseville man, and the woman was northbound on County Road 37 in a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am. The two vehicles collided in the intersection. The Courtland Fire Department, Nicollet County Sheriff’s office, Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Allina Ambulance and MnDOT were all involved.
Another accident, at 11:21 a.m. Monday, occurred on Hwy 111 in Granby Township, Nicollet Country, resulted in the death of a 17-year-old girl from St. Peter. In that crash, a 2000 Buick Regal was southbound on 111 and collided with a northbound 2016 Volvo Tractor Truck driven by John Eugene Magnan, 62, of Detroit Lakes.
The Nicollet County Sheriff and Nicollet Fire Department responded to the scene.
More details about the accidents were expected to be released Monday evening.
