Commissioners to act on election support position

Session to be closed for legal advice

NEW ULM — Brown County commissioners will consider approving a temporary election support position in the Auditor- Treasurer’s Office for the Presidential Nomination Primary (PNP) on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

“The end of the year and early part of next year are extremely busy in the A-T office,” said Brown County Auditor-Treasurer Jean Prochniak.

“We are closing our financials for 2019, preparing for the new audit firm, delinquent notices/publications and the calculation of 2020 taxes and tax statement mailing,” Prochniak said. “With that in mind, we opted to request this temporary hire to assist with material preparation, answering PNP phone inquires, testing equipment, election judge training and absentee voting.”

Commissioners will also:

• Consider authorization to order a tandem cab and chassis and order snowplow equipment. The Brown County Highway Department recommends Harrision Trucks for a $244,488.86 Western Star cab, chassis and Towmaster equipment. Harrison Trucks bid was $73.14 less than Boyer Trucks’ bid.

• Convene a closed session for legal advice from Brown County Attorney Chuck Hanson and discussion of pending and ongoing, nationwide class action lawsuits involving opioid litigation as it may or may not relate to Brown County.

• The board meeting begins at 9 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15 in the second-floor courthouse commissioner’s room.
