District 84 board OKs snow removal bid

SLEEPY EYE — The District 84 Board of Education unanimously approved a snow removal services bid from S & J Construction of Sleepy Eye Wednesday.

The lone bid received for 2019-2020 was $90 an hour for pay-loader snow removal with a 14 foot snow pusher, $35 a load to haul snow and $55 a cubic yard for sand and salt. Action came on a motion by board member Jolene Dittbenner, seconded by Jeremy Domeier.

Other action items approved included a joint sponsorship to start a competitive trap shooting team in spring 2020 involving Sleepy Eye High School, Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s High School and the Sleepy Eye Sportsmen’s Club.

Approved donations included $500 from BIC App Graphics to the Sleepy Eye FFA, $1,000 from the Sleepy Eye Lions Club for the Biz Town program and a BIC donation of golf balls to the golf program.

Sleepy Eye Public School Dashir Management Services Manager Doug Domeier said the new elementary gym heating, ventilation and air conditioning system is up and running. Other big school projects recently completed include paving the parking lot with concrete.

“It was a big expense but I think going from asphalt to concrete was a good choice. The parking lot was sealcoated too,” Domeier said.

A new cafeteria ice cream machine with vanilla and chocolate choices was recently installed.

New students of the month are able to pick their favorite meals now. Food options now aim at including four vegetables, spinach or lettuce and fruit each day.

“The school looks great. I hear lots of compliments about it from people,” said board chairwoman Darla Remus.
