Oktoberfest planned

NEW ULM — The 2019 Oktoberfest is coming to New Ulm, and the city will once again celebrate two weekends of events at multiple locations in the community.

Oktoberfest events are planned downtown New Ulm between Minnesota Street and Broadway on Center Street; inside and outside the Best Western Plus/Green Mill, Morgan Creek Vineyard and Schell’s Brewery.

Friday, Oct. 4

Best Western Plus/Green Mill

The Oktoberfest celebration begins Friday, Oct. 4, at the Best Western Plus/Green Mill with the annual Rocktoberfest event.

Green Mill Catering Director Chad Cooreman said there is a $10 admission fee each day for the events. This year the food served will be locally sourced. The brats come from local providers, and the buns are from the Backerei.

The first musical performance will begin inside the hotel with traditional Oktoberfest music. Rock and roll music will be performed outside in the Green Mill parking lot.

The music starts indoors at 5 p.m. with a performance by the Concord Singers. The traditional fest keg opening will begin at 6 p.m.

Schells’ Hobo Band will play from 7:45 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. inside Best Western.

Dale Dahmen will play from 9:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Outside the Green Mill, music starts at 6 p.m. with Buffalo Alice. Blue Ringers will also play under the tent from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 5

Downtown

The downtown celebration begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, with the German-American Day Parade. Anyone with German heritage is invited to march in the parade. Parade participants will gather by the Glockenspiel at 10:30 a.m. The parade travels south from the Glockenspiel and ends on Center Street between Minnesota Street and Broadway.

Both sides of Center Street will be blocked off during the celebration. The Bockfest Boys will take the Center Street stage at 11 a.m. and play through 1:30 p.m.

Rock of Ages will follow from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.

New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce President Michael Looft said this year downtown will have more food vendors. During the first weekend, nine vendors will be selling during the celebration, including a Bavarian pretzel vendor.

Horse-drawn trolley rides will be available downtown as well.

Bus service between downtown and Best Western Plus/Green Mill will also be available.

Morgan Creek Vineyard

Morgan Creek Vineyard will host the annual grape stomp from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5. Those participating in the grape stomp have a chance to win free wine. The official stomp times are 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Morgan Creek Vineyard is located at 23707 478th Ave, New Ulm.

Cooreman said a shuttle bus will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Best Western Plus/Green Mill parking lot to the vineyard.

Best Western Plus/Green Mill

Rocktoberfest will continue Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Best Western Plus/Green Mill.

The indoor performance starts at 2 p.m. with the Concord Singers.

Josh Norman and the Musik Meisters will play from 3:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.

The Concord Singers will perform again from 6:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.

The Wendinger Band plays from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and the Bockfest Boys from 9:45 p.m. until 11:30 p.m.

The outdoor rock show will begin in the Green Mill parking lot at 6 p.m. with Paul’s Fever Dream.

Powerhouse will play outside from 8 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Friday, Oct. 11

Best Western Plus/Green Mill

The second weekend of Oktoberfest will begin inside the Best Western. The Concord Singers will kick off the second weekend at 5 p.m. The fest keg opening is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Schell’s Hobo Band will perform from 6:30 p.m. through 7:45 p.m.

The Concord Singers will perform again from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Alpensterne will plays from 9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

The outside concert begins at 6 p.m. with Cold Blooded Whiskey.

Sinister will play outside from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 12

Downtown

The Center Street celebration will once again begin at 11 a.m., with the Bockfest Boys playing from 11 a.m .to 1:30 p.m.

Church of Cash will perform from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.

Trolley rides will be available this weekend as will bus routes between Best Western and Schell’s Brewery.

Schell’s Brewery

The Schell’s Brewery opens the second weekend of Oktoberfest of Saturday, Oct. 12. Admission for the event is $10.

The gates open at 10:30 a.m. and the tapping of the fest keg follows at 11 a.m.

Schell’s Hobo Band will perform at 11 a.m.

Alpensterne play at 1:30 p.m.

The last call for alcohol is given at 4:30 p.m. with the Brewery closing at 5 p.m.

Best Western Plus/Green Mill

Saturday, Oct. 12, the music begins a 2 p.m. with the Concord Singers.

Bockfest Boys perform at 3:15 p.m.

The Concord Singers return at 6:30 p.m.

The Wendinger Band plays at 8 p.m.

Outside in the parking lot, Whiskey Stone plays at 6 p.m. followed by IV Play at 8:30 p.m.
