Railroad repairs

An excavator removes asphalt from the railroad crossing at the intersection of 17th North Street and North Minnesota Street Monday. The intersection is closed as old wooden railroad ties are removed and replaced with concrete. Street Superintendent Curt Curry said the city is working with Canadian Pacific Railway, the owner of crossings in New Ulm, to repair damaged rail ties but can’t “promise anything.” “We’re hoping to do three more this fall,” he said. Repairs are expected to last one week, according to an advisory released by the City of New Ulm Monday. Workers at the crossing declined to comment Monday.
