Highway 14/15 interchange partially opens

Minnesota River bridge still under

construction

NEW ULM — Highway 14 and 15 motorists will get some relief at 5 p.m., Monday, Aug. 19 when the new Highway 14/15 interchange opens to all directions but west into the city.

The Minnesota River bridge is still under construction so travelers heading west into New Ulm will still be detoured to the 20th Street bridge, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT).

The interchange was completed ahead of schedule and will provide improved safety and mobility to area travelers, MnDOT reported.

Minnesota River bridge construction has resumed after lengthy delays in 2018 and 2019. The highway department and contracting partners are working to complete the remaining river bridge work, roadway leading to the bridge, final turf establishment and cleanup.

The New Ulm Gateway project addresses intersection safety, aging bridges, poor pavement conditions and road flooding around New Ulm. Construction began in 2017. The project was originally scheduled to be completed by June 2020. An updated completion date has not been set.
