Two drivers die in Renville County crash

RENVILLE COUNTY — Two people died in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Renville County Road 1 and 4 at 11:33 a.m. Sunday, eight miles south of Danube in Henryville Township.

A Mitsubishi Outlander driven by Anna M. Jansen, 88, St. Michael, was westbound on County Road 4 and failed to stop at a stop sign on County Road 1, entered the intersection and struck a Buick LaCrosse driven by David R. Swanson, 53, Lincoln, Neb. Both drivers died in the crash. The vehicles entered the ditch and overturned.

A Buick passenger, Ronda L. Swanson, 53, Lincoln, Neb., was critically injured and flown from the scene to Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis. Her condition was unknown. Other passengers in the Buick were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. They were Abigail Swanson, 23; Sophia Swanson, 19; and Livia Swanson, 15, all of Lincoln, Neb.

The Renville County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Danube Fire, Medical Response and Police units, Olivai Police, Fire and Ambulance, Renville Ambulance, North Memorial Ambulance-Redwood Falls, North Memorial Air helicopter, Life Link III helicopter and the Minnesota State Patrol.

The crash is under investigation.
