New Ulm Downtown Survey now open

A New Ulm Downtown Survey is being conducted to help the New Ulm Downtown Action Team in developing a plan for the downtown area. People can participate in the survey by going to www.newulm.com and clicking on “New Ulm Downtown Survey.”

NEW ULM — The New Ulm Downtown Action Team/Minnesota Main Street Program is partnering with the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota to understand what the residents of New Ulm expect from their downtown. What assets do the residents feel define downtown and provide them with the opportunity to capitalize on in the next few years?

The Preservation Alliance of Minnesota has begun collecting information from New Ulm residents and businesses by doing one-on-one interviews, surveys and conducting focus group discussions.

The Preservation Alliance of Minnesota’s Downtown Assessment uses comprehensive community engagement and mapping tools to identify a community’s competitive edge and highlight its defining features. The results will aid in identifying Transformation Strategies and strengthen downtown revitalization efforts. Information collected through the community engagement process will be compiled in a report with recommendations to help the Downtown Action Team develop a plan to help in the continued vitalization of downtown.

Preservation staff were in New Ulm for Crazy Days events and took advantage of the opportunity to visit with many residents about New Ulm and gather information for the report. The next step in the process is asking community members to complete a short, 12 question survey about the downtown district.

To participate, go to www.newulm.com and click on “New Ulm Downtown Survey.” You can also go to the New Ulm Public Library, where a computer and staff are available to assist. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey by midnight on Friday, Aug. 23.
