Commissioners consider adding deputy

License Bureau restructuring also on agenda

NEW ULM — Brown County Commissioners will consider adding a deputy position at the Brwon County Sheriff’s Office at their meeting Tuesday, July 23.

The meeting starts at 9 a.m. in the commissioners’ room in the Brown County Courthouse.

Commissioners had tabled the request to add an additional deputy in 2020 at their July 9 meeting. Reasons given to add the position include increased calls for service, longer transport times with the closest juvenile detention center in Willmar, increased Probation Apprehension and Detention Orders, the sheriff’s office assisting local law enforcement agencies in more involved and conflict of interest criminal cases and increased mandated training.

A deputy entry level position includes $73,683 for wages, benefits, retirement and medical costs.

Commissioners will also consider:

• Posting two full-time license bureau technician positions. An additional full-time license bureau technician position is part of the request. Restructuring is intended to address additional wait times and duties at the license bureau.

• Appointing Barb Dietz Interim Brown County Human Services Director to represent Brown County on the South Central Community-Based Initiative Joint Powers Board as of Aug. 1, 2019.

• Hearing a Department of Natural Resources (DNR) update from Catherine Fouchi. A handout will summarize DNR activities in Brown County including management of public lands, Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILT), and Strategic Land Asset Management (SLAM).

• Planning Commission recommendations.
