Deputies find meth in Mulligan Township residence

BROWN COUNTY — A 56-year-old rural Comfrey man faces three charges after Brown County deputies found methamphetamine in a Mulligan Township residence June 29.

Alan M. Johnson, 15237 County Road 8, Comfrey, was charged with gross misdemeanor fifth-degree drug possession-not small amount of marijuana, misdemeanor domestic assault-commits act to cause fear of immediate bodily harm or death, and misdemeanor disorderly conduct in Brown County District Court Tuesday.

He was released on his own recognizance with conditions including not returning home until July 5 except one time with law enforcement to get personal belongings and no alcohol/controlled substance possession or use. His bail without conditions was $1,000.

Johnson’s court appearance was set for 9 a.m. July 15.

According to the complaint, Brown County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Jacob Stueber responded to a disturbance at 15237 County Road 8, Mulligan Township, at 7:06 p.m. June 29. The call originally came out as a disturbance where a landlord and tenants were arguing.

Brown County dispatch later said the landlord was breaking things in the house including windows. The call and an alleged victim locked themselves in an upstairs bedroom and could hear glass breaking.

Three deputies arrived at the residence, Johnson denied breaking windows. The caller told deputies Johnson was mad with them and was going to kick them out before throwing something at the alleged victim who said Johnson threatened to kick her out for “no reason.” She said Johnson threatened to break all the windows in the house and vehicles.

After arresting Johnson, a deputy saw pieces of broken plates scattered in the dining room. Johnson said they were doing meth in the kitchen, using one of his nebulizer tubes. He said it was fine for the deputies to search the residence.

Deputies got a search warrant and found two empty bags with a white residue inside that resembled methamphetamine. Deputies found a small container with more white residue next to the glass, dirty dishes, food left on counters and broken glass all over the floor.

On June 30, Deputy Stueber tested the white substance and it tested positive for methamphetamine.
