North Highland Avenue and Oak Street mini-roundabout construction phasing change

NEW ULM — The New Ulm City Council recently approved a change to the construction phasing plan for the construction of the mini-roundabout at the intersection of North Highland Avenue and Oak Street.

The original construction phasing plan allowed one constricted lane of traffic to remain open in each direction on North Highland Avenue, which included several lane shifts. The approved change will allow the contractor to completely close the intersection to all traffic. By allowing this change, the project duration is expected to be shortened from 10 weeks to approximately four weeks. This change also provides a safer environment for the traveling public and construction crews.

A full detour will be posted for this closure that will use Center Street, Garden Street and US Highway 14. The project is scheduled to begin on July 1 and is expected to be completed by Aug. 1, weather permitting. The prime contractor for this project is M.R. Paving & Excavating.
