Nicollet County commissioners OK watershed plan support

ST. PETER — Nicollet County Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution approving a One Watershed One Plan (1W1P) Planning Boundary Map and support resolution May 28.

The plan, approved on a motion by Commissioner Morrow, seconded by Commissioner Dranttel, encourages shared services and information between local government units (LGUs) within the watershed to implement programs that improve water quality in an efficient manner that benefits the immediate and downstream receiving watersheds.

The plan also provides LGUs the ability to develop a cohesive, unified direction for one-term, water planning, identifying priority areas within the watershed through the expertise of local staff and officials.

The boundary largely followed Planning Area 55 adopted April 24 by the Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWR). It includes Bevens and Silver Creek watersheds up to the Carver County line in the northeast portion of the planning area.

Commissioners unanimously approved appointing Commissioner Morrow to the Nicollet Alliance for Prevention against Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (NAPAA), motion by Commissioner Luepke, seconded by Commissioner Kolars. Commissioner Denny Kemp was named an alternate.

The mission of the group is to educate, share knowledge, challenge our way of thinking and prevent underage substance use.
