Robotics team competes in Minneapolis

NEW ULM — The New Ulm robotics team, The Alluminators, competed in the Minnesota North Star Regional at 3M Arena in Minneapolis March 29-31.

After Friday’s six qualification matches, The Alluminators were 4-2 and tied for 13th place.

On Saturday, the team with their alliances went 3-0 to finish 7-2 in qualification matches, to earn 7th place out of 60 teams.

During the alliance picks for the quarterfinals the team became the 5th alliance team captain with teammates the Robo Huskies from St. Anthony and the Cyber Tigers from Belle Plaine.

In the quarterfinals, they lost the first match 87-65 to the 4th seeded alliance of FRED from Warroad, MPArors from St. Paul, and ProDigi from Thief River Falls.

They came back to win the 2nd match of the best 2 out of 3 series by winning the tiebreaker in a 73-73 match.

Their run ended with a one-point loss 74-73 in the tiebreaker match.
