A Night of Ballroom Dancing

Photographs by Zander Boettcher/Alexander House One hundred ten participants enjoyed dancing and listening to the big-band sounds of Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman and others as presented by The Echos, a 20-piece band, at the State Street Theater on Friday evening, March 15. The event, featuring appetizers and dancing in an elegant ballroom setting at the State Street Theater, was held to celebrate the 80th birthday of the theater, a WPA project that opened its doors in 1939 as an addition to the then-high school, located at Center and State Streets in New Ulm. Reading from a Mayoral Proclamation, Mayor Bob Beussman, noting the significance of the theater, expressed the city’s appreciation to those who undertook saving the theater and declared March 15, 2019 State Street Theater Day in New Ulm. Funds realized from the celebration are designated for the fire protection system being installed this week, a projector and screen.
