NEW ULM –A group of masked revelers known as the Narren overran New Ulm City Hall Friday afternoon in an effort to kidnap Mayor Robert Beussman in their annual Fasching tradition.

The Narren searched all over City Hall and eventually found Beussman in his office. He was immediately dressed in Fasching rags and was paraded through downtown New Ulm. The Narren promised to release the Mayor after their demands were met. Their top demand was the Fasching holiday be recognized in New Ulm.

In an effort to meet the Narren’s demand, celebration began throughout New Ulm. Festivities were held at Green Mill and the New Ulm Event Center.

The revelry continues this morning. Schell’s Brewery will open for Bock Fest at 11 a.m.

From 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. the Best Western Plus will host the Fasching Festival, with performances from the Concord Singers and Adam & The Jolly Jammers. The annual Parade of Costumes begins at 7 p.m.
