NEW ULM — The Grand Center for Arts and Culture invites the public to attend the opening of “Immigration: Becoming American” at the 4 Pillars Gallery 5-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8. This interactive exhibit is in partnership with The New Ulm Public Library and their “Becoming American” grant.

Green Card Voices is a collection of photo exhibits that includes portraits of immigrants, their 200-word biography, a quote and a QR code. Visitors can scan the code with a smart device to watch their first-person video story.

The Minnesota-based non-profit Green Card Voices created the travelling exhibit to change the way the world views immigrants. The organization offers several variations of the photo exhibit, showcasing those who immigrated as children and adults to different areas in the United States. The exhibit on display at The Grand Center for Arts & Culture will feature high school students living in St. Paul.

At 6 p.m. during the exhibit opening The Grand will also have several local immigrants answering questions about their immigration experiences in southern Minnesota.
