Iowa man sentenced for 2017 prostitution case

NEW ULM — A 21-year-old Sheldon, Iowa, man arrested with seven other men in an August 2017 prostitution sting in Springfield was convicted of felony prostitution in Brown County District Court Monday.

Shane A. Madsen received a stay of imposition, was sentenced to 30 days local confinement, fined $835 and placed on five years supervised probation. He was credited with four days served and can serve 26 days of Sentence to Service or Community Work Service in lieu of jail time, to be completed by Jan. 14, 2020.

Probation conditions include obtaining a psychological-sexual evaluation, following all recommendations, not using or possessing firearms, ammunition or explosives and not registering to vote or voting until probation discharge and full restoration of civil rights.

The undercover prostitution sting targeted those seeking sex with teenage girls. Law enforcement posed as 16-year-old girls willing to exchange sex acts for money or narcotics.

Taking part in the operation were members of the Brown and Nicollet County Sheriff’s Department, New Ulm and Springfield Police and the Mankato Department of Public Safety.
