BROWN COUNTY — Jaxson Halvorson arrived in this world at the New Ulm Medical Center (NUMC) at 1:40 a.m. Wednesday, January 2. This makes him the first baby born at NUMC in 2019.

Jaxson’s parents are Jay and Larissa Halvorson from Hanska. The couple married in August 2017 and this is their first child.

Larissa went into labor on January 1 at home and was admitted to NUMC at 5:30 p.m. Jaxson arrived earlier than expected. His due date was Sunday, January 6.

His first six hours were scary. Larissa said he was having trouble breathing, as the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck and fluid got into his lungs. Jaxson was flown by helicopter to the Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis.

Fortunately, Jaxson recovered, was discharged, and the family returned home on Saturday.

The Halvorsons are happy to be at home with their newborn. The couple said Jaxson looks a little more like Jay, but he did inherit Larissa’s blue eyes.
