The demolition of the Henry Subilia home at 504 South Minnesota Street took place in the fog on Thursday morning. According to local historian Elroy Ubl, in 1861-1862, Henry A. Subilia, Sr., conceived the idea to erect a distillery in New Ulm. He built it at a cost of more than $10,000 below the present-day Hermann Monument. Today, the only trace of the building is its chimney. Henry A. Subilia died at his residence on May 6, 1899. The house, with its distinctive columns and roofline, had fallen into decay in recent years.
