NEW ULM — The New Ulm Area Catholic Schools (NUACS) held their annual Pumpkinfest celebration at St. Anthony’s Sunday.

This was the first time Pumpkinfest was held in New Ulm rather than at the St. George’s Church. Assistant Development Director Tammy Klawitter said with the weather forecast of rain NUACS thought it was better to hold the event at the Catholic elementary school.

The change of venue might have helped. The turnout for the fall festival was high. Within the first two hours over 300 trick o’ treat bags were given to children. Of the 470 pumpkins available for sale, around 100 were left at the end of the day.

Inside the school kids were entertained with a bouncy house, balloon animals, a variety of games and face painting.

School nurse Tammi Pippert and her daughters applied the spooky face paint to dozens of children. The zombie look was very popular.

Klawitter said the Pumpkinfest is the schools’ way of raising funds for technology in grades K-12 across all grades.
