Planning panel OKs plat for depot

NEW ULM — The New Ulm Planning Commission approved the preliminary plat of the Depot 2nd Addition at 200 S. Valley St.

Canadian Pacific Railway applied to create a single 1.91 acre lot at this address. The property is currently the location of the Canadian Pacific Railway Depot and a storage building used by Heymann Construction Company. The plat would permit the transfer of property, a storage building, from Heyco to Canadian Pacific.

Community Development Director David Schnobrich said a portion of the Heyco property is being removed, which will require a new legal description for the Heymann parcel.

The final plat of the Itinger Addition was also unanimously recommended for approval by the commission. This property totals 1.14 acres and is located at S. 13th St. and is undeveloped. The plat would divide each of the six existing lots into two smaller lots to accommodate twin homes. The end of the lot would accommodate two separate single family dwelling units. City code requires a separate lot for each privately-owned dwelling unit. The plat requires variances in order to construct twin homes. The city council previously approved the preliminary plat.

The final approval of the plat will come before the city council at the Oct. 2 meeting.

Commission member Liza Kukla announced she was resigning from the commission. Kukla recently purchased a house outside of the city limits. By city code she cannot be a member of the commission. Her last meeting will be in October.
