Homeowner finds items stolen from Cathedral robbery

NEW ULM — A homeowner’s discovery of two black trash bags near a garage Saturday morning led to recovery of items taken during a Thursday burglary at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity.

New Ulm Police were called to a residence on the 200 block between South Broadway and Minnesota Street at 8:06 a.m. Saturday. The homeowner reported finding two strange trash bags nest to his house, and he found items believed to have come from a Thursday burglary at the Cathedral, according to a New Ulm Police Department news release

Recovered items were sampled for possible DNA. Police canvassed the neighborhood and the investigation remains active.

Surveillance video from outside the church Thursday showed a white male and female in their late teens or early 20s entering the church from the alley. Physical, digital and DNA evidence in the case is being analyzed.

New Ulm Police Department Senior Investigator Jeff Hohensee said the recovered items are not everything that was reported stolen from the Cathedral on Thursday. Police are not offering details yet as to what was taken.

“We’re still looking for a couple things,” Hohensee said.

New Ulm Police are offering $500 for information leading to the conviction of the two suspects. All information can remain confidential. Call New Ulm Police at 507-233-6750.
