Setting up for the fair

NEW ULM — The 151th Annual Brown County Fair is gearing up to start Wednesday night.

The annual event always draws a large crowd, and the weather is expected to behave throughout the five days of the fair.

Brown County Fair Marketing Coordinator Nicole Rustman said this year will include all the fun events from past years as well new things.

Wednesday

Entrants in the Open Class and 4-H Shows began bringing exhibits to the show on Monday and Tuesday, but the first public event is the 4-H Pet Show at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Swine Barn, and at 5 p.m. the full fair opens to the public. Wednesday night is also see the 4-H Clothing Fashion Review at 7 p.m. in the Civic Center.

The first Demolition Derby starts 7 p.m. Wednesday night. Rustman said the Demo Derby continues to be the top draw at the Brown County Fair. Last year the fair celebrated 50 years of demo derbies.

Wednesday night will close with a performance from Cold Blooded Whiskey in the Entertainment Hall.

Thursday

Thursday, the fair will honor this year’s outstanding senior citizen and honor local Century Farms.

Later in the day the fair welcomes back another fan favorite: bingo. From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday and Friday the Civic Center will host games of bingo. The game has not been played at the fair in a few years. Rustman said bringing bingo back was the number-one request the fair received.

At 7:30 p.m. “Them Pesky Kids” will open for the band “Firehouse” in the Grandstand. Rustman said this is a return to the fairs of past decades when big bands played the Grandstand.

Friday

Friday is Kids Day at the fair. Throughout the day kids events will be scheduled, including the Kids Pedal Pull at 1 p.m. and Puppet Wagon. Mandi’s snakes and reptile exhibit will be the Civic Center starting at 4 p.m.

The Truck & Tractor Pull will start at 7 p.m. in the Grandstand. From 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Bootleg will perform in the Entertainment Hall.

Saturday

Big Ideas Carpenters will conduct a demonstration build next to the Pork Producers Stand starting at 9 a.m. Rustman said they plan to build a Tiki Bar and Bench all day. Once they finish the items will be put up for auction.

The second Demo Derby of the weekend will run at 6 p.m. in the Grandstand.

From 8 p.m. to midnight, “Powerhouse” will play the entertainment Hall.

Sunday

On the last day of the fair the Minnesota Gladiolus Society State Show will be on exhibit from noon to 4 p.m. in the Civic Center. Also from noon to 4 p.m. Miss Rodeo Minnesota will be outside the FFA Building for a meet and greet.
