Authorities searching for missing Buffalo Lake man

HECTOR — Buffalo Lake Police are looking for a Buffalo Lake man who has not been seen since July 2, and whose car has been found submerged in a flooded drainage ditch near Hector.

Police were notified at 6:07 p.m. Thursday, July 5 that 24-year-old Adam M. Rein of Buffalo Lake was missing. He was last seen leaving a Hector establishment at about 11 p.m. Monday, July 2.

The Renville County Sheriff’s Office received a report at 7:26 p.m., Thursday of what appeared to be a vehicle submerged in a drainage ditch northeast of Hector in Hector Township.

Hector Police and Fire Departments, Buffalo Lake Police and the sheriff’s office responded and officers noticed indications that a vehicle left the road on 800th Avenue, west of Renville County Road 22, and entered a drainage ditch. The vehicle could not be seen in the water, but a current disruption was noticed. Officers and firefighters later verified the vehicle was submerged in the ditch.

Emergency responders recovered the vehicle, which was not occupied. It was determined the vehicle belonged to Rein, the missing person.

Despite a foot and aerial search around the ditch, Reim was not located Thursday. The search continued Friday6. Officers and deputies from the sheriff’s office, Buffalo Lake and Hector Police and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources participated in a search using a drone and boat.

Later, the Buffalo Lake Fire Department water rescue team and Hector Fire Department participated in the search.
