NEW ULM — Families crammed the 4 Pillars Gallery Friday evening during the reception for the Kiddo Sho (cq).

The Grand Center for Arts and Culture is hosting its semi-regular gallery of kids art until May 25. This year’s show is a little larger than last year at 71 artists and about 115 pieces.

“I love it, there is such a variety,” Marketing Assistant Brittany Mathiowetz said. “I mean, we have everything from photography to ceramics, drawings — everything.”

The walls of the gallery were filled with art ranging from unicorns on canvas to a silhouette of Prince made out of purple stickers.

A little after the start of the reception the dozen winners were announced in the four categories.

In Grades one and two winners are: Audrey Gag with “Starry Night,” Himalaya Rain with “The Book Report,” Kelsie Havermeier with “Best Friends” and Samina Gusso with “Tall Giraffe.”

Third and fourth-grade winners are: Lily Mathiowetz with “Sun” and Sophie Berger with “The Garden.”

Grades five and six are: Dan Barie with “Prince,” Sully Gusso with “Bob Marley” and Ave Schubbe with “Arbol” (Tree in Spanish).

Each winner got a bag full of art supplies when their names were announced. Every child who entered the show also got a gift bag containing a necklace or puzzle ball.

Winners were chosen by members of the Board of Directors. While hanging the art, they each chose a favorite and voted on them together.

“I just love it, it is so much fun and the kids have such a good time,” Board Vice President Linda Beck said. “It is one of (my) favorites of the whole year.”

The Kiddo Sho can be viewed during regular hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.

Any winners who were unable to pick up their prizes during the reception can contact The Grand at (507) 359-9222.
