SLEEPY EYE — Authorities are searching for a 32-year-old Sleepy Eye man facing three felony 1st degree burglary charges, including the use of a dangerous weapon, 2nd degree felony assault and three other charges in Brown County District Court.

In addition, an arrest warrant was issued and charges of gross misdemeanor emergency phone call disruption and two counts of misdemeanor domestic assault were filed Dec. 19 against Javier O. Trejo, 237 1/2 Main St..

According to court documents, Sleepy Eye Police were contacted Dec. 18 by a person regarding an alleged domestic assault that took place the previous night in Sleepy Eye. A victim said she was home with her three children, ages 11, 9, and 1 when Trejo, her ex-husband and the father of her children called and asked to take the kids to dinner.

When he arrived at the residence, the victim, who said she is pregnant in the third trimester, said he pushed his way inside, grabbed a kitchen knife from the counter and held it to her stomach. She said he asked her where the other man was. She said she feared for her life and told him nobody else was home but her and the children.

The victim said Trejo searched the residence for a man and grabbed and broke the victim’s phone when she tried to call police. The victim said two of her children tried to run from the residence and Trejo followed them, then grabbed her by the hair and pulled her back inside. She showed police scratches on her back where she said he grabbed her.

The victim said Trejo calmed down and left when her friend came to the residence. The victim said Trejo returned the next morning but she would not open the door for him. She said he yelled through the door that he was going to take the kids.

Police checked the residence and were unable to locate Trejo.

Due to severity of the charges, attendant public safety concerns and the inability to find Trejo, an arrest warrant was requested by police.
