NEW ULM — The Brown County Humane Society (BCHS) held its Baked Goods and Craft Sale Saturday.

At Oak Hills Living Center volunteers spent the morning raising money for the BCHS by selling donated crafts and baked goods.

“It has gone really well, we have sold a lot of baked goods,” Volunteer Julie Hibbard said.

An estimated 100 baked goods were donated to the sale and at least half of those had been sold before the fundraiser ended.

The most popular items this year were the sugar cookies. The were so popular the BCHS ran out at least an hour before they closed up shop, Hibbard.

Two other popular items were cat bags and dog toys. A lot of handmade blankets had been donated ast well, Hibbard said.

Funds from the sale go to help the general operations of BCHS, which is primarily funded by donations.

Total money raised will not be known for about a week, volunteers said. Though they were pleased with the results as most purchasers paid extra on their items as a donation to the BCHS, Volunteer Nina Beise said.

The Humane Society began in 1981 as a fostering organization, according to its website. It moved into its current location at 1301 S. Valley St. in 2004.

Last year the all-volunteer organization adopted out 465 animals. Normal adoption hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, or by appointment.
