NEW ULM — The New Ulm Area Foundation (NUAF) pledged $50,000 to State Street Theater’s capital campaign.

On Wednesday, the NUAF Board of Directors made a unanimous decision to make this commitment to the State Street Theater (SST) to aid in addressing improvements.

The capital campaign covers the separation of utilities from the classroom side of the building, potential roof repairs, and exterior improvements such as tuck-pointing, sidewalks and parking lots.

“Given the $15 million commitment of Community House Development Corporation (CHDC) to bring affordable housing to the classroom side of the building we felt it important to assist SST’s efforts to assure CHDC the community of New Ulm is committed to becoming their good neighbor by assuring the entire site is maintain,” NUAF Grants Committee Chair Bob Wise said.

NUAF has four pillars as guidelines for making grants; economic development, arts and culture, education and history. The SST project met all four of these goals.

“When we started on this journey of fund-raising and grant-writing, our plan called for at least one donor pledge of $50,000” Reed Glawe, President of the SST board and Co-Chair of the Capital Campaign said. “We are very grateful to NUAF in recognizing that, while SST may be the owner of the theater, it holds the property only as stewards on behalf of the community. This pledge commitment menas much no only to the theater, but the New Ulm area as a whole.”

The capital campaign began in February of this year. At this time the total money raised is a little over $250,000. This means SST is over half way to meeting its $500,000 target. The remaining $250,000 will be targeted through pursuit of Legacy and other granting opportunities.
