Arbor Day

Students from St. Anthony’s second grade class celebrated Arbor Day in German Park Friday morning. The students participated in Mayor Robert Beussman’s annual Arbor Day proclamation and listen to tree themed stories and songs performed by Youth Services Librarian Jan Keaveny. As part of the program the second graders helped plant a new tree in the German Park. The tree planted this year was a ginkgo or maidenhair tree. According to the University of Minnesota Extension website, The ginkgo is soil adaptable and free of disease and insect. The tree is tolerant of heat, wind and air pollution making it the perfect tree for an urban environment.
