Court Proceedings

Brown County

District Court

• John R. Gould, 49, 410 N. Van Buren Ave., Springfield, was charged with gross misdemeanor domestic assault-subsequent violation and misdemeanor 3rd-degree tampering with witness-prevent information to police by intimidation Friday.

According to court documents, Sleepy Eye Police got a call at 2:03 a.m., Jan. 19 from the AmericInn front desk asking offices to come because of a fight. Police were told in the motel lobby by multiple witnesses of a possible assault by Gould. Police talked to Gould who said he didn’t like being involved in a fight.

Police tried to find someone to care for Gould for the night but nobody around was comfortable staying with him. An adult woman told police that his daughter, the alleged victim, tried to keep Gould in the room and that he will not stop.

Police offered to put a bandage on Gould’s elbow but he refused, then called a witness “a loser” and raised his voice. Gould later pointed his phone at an officer’s stomach and pressed the top of the phone into the officer’s stomach and was arrested. He was transported to detox

The alleged victim told police Gould hit her with the back of his hand and that he swore at her, telling her to shut up even though she wasn’t talking, then told her not to tell anyone what happened when he found out police were coming. She sent digital photos of the text messages between Gould and the female.

Gould was convicted of domestic assault on Aug. 21, 2018 in Brown County Court. He was summoned to appear in court at 8:30 a.m., April 30.
