• Colleen Jean A. Alsaker, 38, North Branch, was charged with felony 5th-degree drug possession-not small amount of marijuana, gross misdemeanor 2nd-degree DWI-refuse to submit to chemical test, 2nd-degree DWI operate motor vehicle under influence of controlled substance and misdemeanor driving after revocation Tuesday.

According to court documents, a Minnesota State Patrol trooper was westbound on U.S. Highway 14, leaving Sleepy Eye at 10:25 p.m., Oct. 20 when he noticed a red Pontiac traveling at 47 mph in a 60 mph zone. The trooper activated a video recorder and observed the car drift towards the center line. The trooper later stopped the vehicle at 370th Avenue when it pulled onto the shoulder at 370th Avenue and stopped. The driver, Alsaker, showed signs of impairment including slurred speech. She provided a driver’s license that was clipped because it was revoked for a DUI test refusal. She was unable to complete a fields sobriety test.

More law enforcement was requested and Brown County deputies arrived, searched the suspect vehicle and found a white crystalline powder believed to be methamphetamine. Drug paraphernalia was also found and Alsaker refused to provide a blood or urine sample.

Alsaker was transported to the New Ulm Medical Center and refused to provide a blood or urine sample. Alsaker was transported to the Law Enforcement Center and booked into jail and evaluated by a certified DRE. She admitted to swerving and meth and paraphernalia that weighed about 1.1 grams and .6 grams.

She was convicted of DWI in Polk County on Aug. 21, 2018. Her driver’s license was lost due to an implied consent violation in Ramsey County on Aug. 22. Both are qualified, prior impaired driving incidents. In addition, she was convicted of 5th-degree controlled substance possession on Feb. 10, 2016.

• Taylor A. Kathman, 23, 105 Wilson St. W., Springfield, was charged with gross misdemeanor 3rd-degree DWI 0.08 within 2 hours and misdemeanor operate motor vehicle under influence of alcohol, 0.08 within 2 hours and open bottle.

According to court documents, a Brown County Sheriff’s Office deputy was dispatched to 204 Minnesota St. in Hanska at 8:06 p.m., Oct. 20 for a disturbance call. A female left in a maroon Ford westbound on CR 20, possibly going to Springfield at a very high rate of speed and alcohol was believed to be involved.

The deputy stopped the suspect vehicle near State Highway 4 and 150th Street. Kathman showed signs of intoxication, admitted to consuming beer and failed field sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test indicated .195. She was arrested. A deputy found an open beer can in the vehicle. A blood sample was taken from Kathman.
