Legion riders coming to raise funds for vets’ kids

The American Legion Legacy Scholarship was created as a result of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the global war on terror leaving many children of our active-duty military personal in single-parent households.

The American Legion expanded the scholarship to include children of VA-rated, post 9/11 veterans with a combined disability rating of 50 percent or higher in 2017. Funds raised ensure higher education will be a reality for these families.

It is estimated that 11,000 children has lost a parent in the war, and that number continues to grow. The American Legion Family is working to ensure that these children who want a post-secondary education will get one.

American Legion Riders in Minnesota has formed the Minnesota Legacy Run to gather the funds that has been raised, and to continue the fundraising to reach the goals set of $20 million Dollars.

The Legacy Run will be stopping at American Legion Post 132, 13 S. Minnesota St. in New Ulm on Aug. 21 at approximately 1:45 pm.

If anyone wishes to donate, checks can be made to: MN American Legion Foundation and in the memo – Fund 84. Checks received after Aug. 21 will go toward next year’s Legacy ride.

The ride will continue on to Redwood Falls, with a stop and overnight layover in Montevideo.
