Park & Rec Report

Rec Center Openings The Recreation Center is now open, with the exception of the Vogel Fieldhouse. Hours are Monday through Friday 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Daily admission fees are $7 for youth and seniors, $9 general admission and $3 for playground only. We offer several membership options, including discounted punch cards that work well for families; inquire at the welcome desk.

Open Swim hours are Monday and Wednesday from 4-6:30 p.m., Friday 4-8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Lap Swim hours are M-F 5 a.m.-8 a.m., 10 a.m.-8 a.m. (except Fridays), Saturday 7-10:30 a.m., Sunday 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m. and are subject to change

Official Rec Center Grand Re-opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony is tentatively planned for Sunday, Oct. 24 at 1 p.m. Short speeches by dignitaries and ribbon cutting will take approximately 30 minutes. There will be self-guided tours and free admission, including open swim from 1-4 p.m. This regional economic development and quality of life project has been in-the-works for almost a decade. The Recreation Center expansion and renovation was funded with approximately $15,000,000 in local half-percent sales tax; authorized by New Ulm voters, the City Council and the State of Minnesota.

Civic Center is open for skating and open hockey. Check the website for dates/times.

Last weekend for Hermann Monument – open Saturday/Sundays 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Please follow COVID protocols in place for visiting the monument, including social distancing. Admission is $3 per person. The monument will close for the season on Oct. 24.

Park restrooms are closed for the season due to the threat of frost. Harman Park restrooms are available with paid rentals only.

The Community Center – CAST Activities have resumed, and the Center is open for activities and programming! Please call 354-3212 or email castnu@newulmtel.net with questions. Meals for shut ins and takeout available by calling 359-2243. Watch for congregate meals have reopened as well.

Memorial/Gift Giving Ideas -purchase one or more paver stone(s) with your inscription(s), in the walkways near Hermann Monument and/or German Park for $200 each, contact the Park & Rec office at 359-8344. Park or trail benches range in price from $1,500 to $3,500 each, call 359-8344.

Riverside Environmental Learning Center is open Saturdays and Sundays 1 p.m.- 4 p.m.
