Cancelations due to COVID-19

The following is a list of canceled events and closures due to concerns for the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. The list will be updated as The Journal is notified of events. Please email news@nujournal.com or editor@nujournal.com to notify The Journal of cancellations.

CITY OF NEW ULM

The following City Buildings are closed at least until May 4:

City Hall, Public Library, Public Utilities, Street Department, Recreation Center, Civic Center, and the New Ulm Community Center.

The New Ulm Community Center, 600 N German. LSS will be preparing meals for shut-ins, and pick-up meals, but there will be NO congregate meals. Please call 359-2243 to reserve and pick up a meal.

Library patrons should keep all library materials until the library reopens. No overdue fines will be assessed.

Annual and 3-month memberships at the Rec Center will be extended by the amount of time the facility is closed.

The Spring/Summer Park and Recreation and Community Education Summer Activities Guide and Registration has been delayed. Stay tuned for further information.

The city will continue to communicate with the public via Facebook, The Journal and KNUJ.

PRAIRIE PIECEMAKERS

New Ulm Prairie Piecemakers Quilt Club meeting scheduled for April 16 is canceled.

DIOCESE OF NEW ULM

The Diocese of New Ulm has extended the suspension of all public masses through May 4, 2020. All Catholics are dispensed from the obligation to attend Sunday masses. Bishop LeVoir will celebrate privately THE Holy Week liturgies and the Sunday Masses for April 19, April 26, and May 3. These liturgies will be available online on the Diocese of New Ulm website, www.dnu.org.

FLUORESCENT BULB COLLECTION

The Brown County Fluorescent Bulb Collection in New Ulm on May 6 and in Springfield on May 7 have been postponed in response due to the coronavirus restrictions. A new date will be announced when plans are finalized.

BROWN COUNTY HISTORICAL

SOCIETY

The Lunch and a Bite of History program on the History of New Ulm Grocery Stores has been postponed to a date to be determined. The program “DO TELL — Notable Women of Brown County,” has also been postponed to a date to be determined. The BCHS Museum is closed indefinitely.

BROWN COUNTY HUMANE

SOCIETY

The Brown County Humane Society Shelter is closed to the public until further notice due to COVID concerns. We will continue with adoptions through individual, scheduled appointments. Applications to adopt must be completed and submitted prior to scheduling an appointment to meet the pet. Applications can be found at bchsnu.com.

STATE STREET THEATER

State Street Theater is adjusting its concerts and plays to new dates. “The Johnny Cash Story” concert set for Friday, April 3 is rescheduled for Friday, June 26 at 7 p.m., contingent on the coronavirus. The play, “Over the River and Through the Woods,” set for April 17-19, will be rescheduled at a date to be determined. All pre-purchased passes and tickets will be valid at the rescheduled times and dates. Updates will be posted on its website, www.statestreetNEWULM.org. State Street Theater. GRAND CENTER FOR

ARTS & CULTURE

The Grand Center for Arts and Culture has cancelled all art classes, entertainment and gallery shows through April 30. We are working on rescheduling our entertainment. If anyone purchased a ticket to one of our recent shows and would like reimbursement, please send an email to grand@thegrandnewulm.com.

SouthPoint Financial Credit Union will be temporarily closing all branch lobbies and limiting visitors to the Administration Office.

SouthPoint is encouraging members to use the open drive throughs and digital banking services: VideoConnect, Webchat, Mobile Deposit, Call24 Phone Banking, Online and Mobile Banking, MoneyPass ATM Network

ECOWATER OF NEW ULM

The New Ulm office will be open, but hours will be reduced. We will be open Mondays/Wednesdays 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Fridays 8 a.m.-noon. Service and delivery will continue as normally as possible, and the water kiosks are still open 24 hours a day.

Nuvera is temporarily closed to walk-ins until further notice due to COVID-19 concerns. This measure is being taken to help protect employees and customers.

FIELDS OF GRACE LUTHERAN

All Fields of Grace Lutheran Church activities are canceled until further notice.

LIONS CLUB

The Lions Club of New Ulm has canceled all meetings until further notice.

ROTARY CLUB

The New Ulm Rotary Club has canceled all meetings until further notice.

MARTIN LUTHER COLLEGE

The Martin Luther College administration announces the following plans for year-end activities at MLC.

• The final day of alternative/distance learning for MLC students will remain on May 15.

• Commencement will be conducted virtually on Saturday, May 16 at 10 a.m.

• The reading of assignments will be broadcast following the commencement service.

• Other year-end plans for clearing dorms and other details will be communicated soon.

SPRINGFIELD LIBRARY

The Springfield Public Library is closed until further notice. Books can still be returned to the library drop box. All books will automatically be renewed twice. No fees will be incurred on books while the library remains closed. We ask that all movies be returned on or before their due date to avoid any fees.
