The Autumn Park and Rec and Community Education Activities Brochure is in today’s Journal. Copies are also available online at www.newulmmn.gov or at the Rec Center. Registration opens Monday, August 12 at 10 a.m.

Monday Night Community Concert German Park Monday, August 5, starting at 7 p.m. Musical entertainment will be Larry Mages and the Mages Family Band.

Last week of regular scheduled Rec on the Go –

Wow Zone, Mankato Summer Field Trip offered Friday, August 9 from 12 to 4 p.m. where you can bowl, play mini golf and laser tag. Fees are $20 for residents or $22 for non-residents; cost includes transportation and admission. Register at the Rec Center or online.

Get to Know Nature Camp – Wild about Wildlife People eat wild edibles for a number of reasons, including a legitimate way of economizing food costs, excellent source of vitamins and minerals and in rare situations, they can be essential for survival. Class offered Tuesday, August 13 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Riverside Environmental Learning Center for just $5! Register at the Rec Center or online.

Lifeguard Training Class will be offered August 14-17. Participants must be 15 years old by the last class date to register. Completion of pre-course physical fitness test of 300-yard swim (6 laps) using front crawl and breaststroke, tread water for 2 minutes with no hands, retrieve a 10-pound brick from 7 to 10 feet of water, swim 20 yards back to side of pool, get out of pool without using a ladder or stairs within 1 minute and 40 seconds in order to proceed with the course. There will be 3 final skill scenarios to successfully complete certification and written exam that requires a score of 80 percent or higher. This is a blended learning class with 5 to 7 hours of online work to be completed before the start of class. Register online or at the Rec Center by Friday, August 9.

Summer Day of Play Thursday, August 15 in German Park. The fun starts at 6 p.m. with games, Rec on the Go, bounce houses, inflatable zip line, Hippo Chow Down and more! The Lego Movie 2 will be shown at approximately 8:30 p.m. Thank you to the many businesses and service organizations that sponsor our Days of Play! Please thank and support them!

Tot Swim is held the first and third Fridays of the month; the next one is Friday, August 16. This is an opportunity to Swim and play with your tot in the shallow part of the pool. Toys are provided and tot slide will be open. Whirlpool is closed during this time. Admission is $2.75/tot.

Outdoor Wading Pools are daily from 12:30-6:30 p.m. Children must be with an adult of at least 18. There is NO lifeguard on duty. Air temp must be a minimum of 72 degrees to open and will close for strong winds, heavy downpours or lightening. The wading pools are scheduled to close for the season August 19.

Canoeing – Minnesota River Paddle for Ages 12 and up. Take a canoe and paddle on the Minnesota River Wednesday, August 28 from1-2 p.m. Participants learn proper canoeing techniques and safety while exploring the beautiful MN River. Register online or at the Rec Center. Cost is just $5 residents and $5.50 for non-residents.

Riverside Environmental Learning Center located in Riverside Park is open Thursdays and Fridays 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturdays 1 to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 12 to 4 p.m. or by appointment. Please call Ron at 507-766-5770 to make arrangements for other times.

Open Pickleball at Rec Center Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 1-2:30 p.m. Memberships, Punch cards, cards or Daily Admission apply. Outdoor pickleball courts are open.

Minnecon Park is open. Please exercise caution as the Minnesota River levels are still high.

Hermann Monument open daily 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission $3 per person. Ages 5 and under free with adult.

German Park Amphitheater is in great need of improvement! Fundraising for this project continues. Any size of donation is accepted and greatly appreciated for the community venue. Checks can be made to the City of New Ulm and mailed to the Park and Rec. Dept., 122 S. Garden Street, New Ulm.
