Off the Shelf: It’s not too late!

Spring is here, and you know what that means…Tax time is near. Are your taxes all prepared and sent in? Whew, it’s a relief when that’s done! But maybe you have put off getting your taxes done? By the time you are reading this, April 15th will be only two and a half weeks away. I may have just the information you need to get them completed in time.

The 2018 Tax Reform resulted in a redesign of the 1040 forms. The 1040A and 1040EZ forms are no longer used. The 1040 form is used for all taxpayers now. We have the Federal 1040 forms with schedules 1 – 6, and instruction booklets available at the library. They are located in the hallway near the Children’s Room; you are welcome to come in and help yourself.

The Minnesota Department of Revenue no longer provides tax forms to us, but we have printed out some of the most common forms. The following are available at the Service Center for $.25/page.

M1 – Individual Tax Form

M1PR – Homestead Credit Refund

CRP – Certificate of Rent Paid

If you need any other tax forms or tax tables, library staff would be happy to print them for you at a cost of $.25 per page.

Once again this year, free tax preparation by IRS-certified preparers is being offered in the lower level of the library. This service is sponsored by the United Way of the Brown County Area and the library. It is available by appointment only, so please call 507-276-3186 to set up an appointment.

Did you know? If you do your own taxes, you can file your federal and Minnesota returns online for free at myfreetaxes.com.

April 15 will be here before we know it. Let us help you take the worry out of tax preparation.

“I believe we should all pay our taxes with a smile. I tried…but they wanted cash” (unknown)
