Weight Lifting for Women is a 6-week program designed to familiarize women with our strength and cardio equipment, providing skills needed to plan weight room workouts and guidance for use of machines and dumbbells. Classes are Mondays at 11 a.m. March 11 through April 15.

Weight Loss Challenge Weigh out for teams is March 14 through March 17 at 6 p.m. Participants are able to weigh out during normal Rec Center hours with a Coordinator at the Welcome Desk. Individuals will need to weigh out during designated weigh out times sent in the Challenge emails. If these times do not work, please contact Sandy, Fitness Program Coordinator at sandyb@newulmmn.gov or (507)233-2121, ext. 204 to set up a time. Closing Ceremony is scheduled for Monday March 18 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Rec Center. Prizes will be awarded.

The next session of swim lessons begins March 23 and runs through May 4 (no lessons on April 20). Classes are every Saturday morning. Register online or at the Rec Center.

Tot Swim is held the first and third Fridays of the month; March 15 from 9:30-11 a.m. This is an opportunity to Swim and play with your tot in the shallow part of the pool. Toys provided and tot slide will be open. Whirlpool is closed during this time. Admission is $2.75/tot.

No ice at the Civic Center now through April 5. Come check out the Camper and Home Shows, along with the Garage Sales going on at the Civic Center through March!

The next session of Hermann Swim Club starts March 19 and runs Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5 p.m. Register online or at the Rec Center.

WSI (Water Safety Instructor) Class offered March 21-24. Participants may register at the Rec Center or online at www.newulmmn.gov

Spring Garage sale will be held at the Civic Center on Saturday, March 30 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Mark your calendars now! There will be many sales under one roof with lots of treasures to search through!

Fitness Fun Day Sunday, March 31 from1-5 p.m. FREE admission to the Rec Center to swim, shoot hoops, play gym games and walk the track. This program is sponsored by Allina Health/New Ulm Medical Center and Physicians Group of New Ulm and Park and Rec.

Weight Lifting for Seniors is a 6-week, 60-minute program designed to approach strength training in a safe, effective and fun way to keep you strong for life. Strength training can ward off muscle loss, keep bones strong, promote mobility and function, prevent falls and even help combat depression! Classes run Mondays at 10 a.m. April 1 through May 13. Register at the Rec Center or online at newulmmn.gov

Fit and Strong! Arthritis Management and Prevention Program is a physical activity self-management program for older adults or persons with lower extremity osteoarthritis (OA). It combines flexibility, strength training and aerobic walking with health education for sustained behavior change. Expect to gain a clear understanding of what osteoarthritis is and how physical activity that is tailored to the needs of persons with arthritis can help them manage arthritis symptoms. Learn to perform safe stretching, balance, aerobic and strengthening exercises. Groups meet weekly for 6 weeks on Fridays from 8-9:15 a.m. April 12 through May 24 (No class April 19).

Harman Park Warming hours are Monday through Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday 5 to 9 p.m., Saturday 1 to 9 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m. Hot cocoa and coffee are available for sale, as well as limited number of skate rentals for $2.25 per pair. The warming house will not open in the case of severe windchill or poor weather conditions.

Open Pickleball at Rec Center Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 1-2:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10-11:30 a.m. Memberships, Punch cards, cards or Daily Admission apply. Please note: Open Pickleball on March 15 has been changed to 11:45 a.m.-1:15 p.m. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Youth and Adult Pottery classes are beginning in April. Register online or at the Rec Center!

Easter Ceramics class is offered April 2 and 4 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the Community Center. Register online or at the Rec Center.

Trail System is partially impassable, due to heavy snow, high winds and drifting. Sections of North Highland Avenue and sections from 800 North Front Street to 2300 North Broadway are affected. When the city is able to remove snow from those sections, the trail will become passable. Nehls Park trail is open and passable. 

2019 Days of Play- New Ulm Area Businesses and Service Organizations will be contacted throughout the next few weeks and asked to participate in the 2019 New Ulm Area Days of Play. These are four to five large-scale events, designed to celebrate active play with a variety of play experiences in a festive atmosphere. They are offered throughout the year, free of charge for children through adults. Last year we raised approximately $12,000 to cover rental fees and expenses associated with holding these events. There are three levels of sponsorships: $100, $250 or $500. Businesses and Service Organizations’ names are listed on marketing materials.
