NEW ULM — Members of the Der Deutsche Longbeards Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) recently delivered turkeys to the New Ulm Area Food Shelf. The chapter raised funds for this donation at their annual banquet. Proceeds from the banquet also fund local youth hunting opportunities, and a $500 scholarship ($250 comes from the local chapter and $250 from National) for a deserving area high school senior. The club also makes funds available to assist area high school shooting teams with expenses.

The NWTF is the organization responsible for the reintroduction of the wild turkey to the hills and river valleys of southern Minnesota. They provided a great share of the funding for the turkey biologist and technicians working for the Department of Natural Resources who conducted the capture and transplant operations.

Der Deutsche Longbeards will host the 2019 banquet at the New Ulm Country Club February 2, beginning at 5:30 p.m. President Jay Haun can be reached at 507-359-7705, for more information about the banquet.
