Open Pickleball on Thursday, Dec. 20 has been moved to 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

Tot Swim: Friday, Dec. 21 from 9:30-11 a.m. This is an opportunity to Swim and play with your tot in the shallow part of the pool. Toys provided and tot slide will be open. Whirlpool is closed during this time. Admission is $2.50/tot.

Lifeguard Training Class offered Dec. 26 (2-6 p.m.), 27, 28 (8 a.m.-4 p.m. both days) at the Rec Center. Become Red Cross LG Certified by taking this course. Participants must be 15 years old by the last class date to register. They must successfully pass a pre-course physical fitness test consisting of a 300-yard swim (6 laps) using front crawl and breaststroke, tread water for 2 minutes with no hands and be able to retrieve a 10 pound brick from 7 to 10 feet of water, swim 20 yards back to side of pool, get out of pool without using ladder or stairs within 1 minute and 40 seconds in order to proceed with the course. There will be 3 final skill scenarios to successfully complete and a written exam that requires a score of 80 percent or higher.

Upon successful completion, a certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/ CPR/ AED will be issued and valid for two years. Participant manuals are required for class. You may bring your own copy, purchase through Park and Rec. or download onto a tablet (we will provide the link.) This is a blended learning course. Participants are expected to complete 5 to 7 hours of online coursework prior to the start of class. Fee is $178 Resident or $195.80 Non-Resident. Register at the Rec Center or online by Dec. 19.

Special No School Open Swim offered Dec. 27 and 28 (Thursday and Friday) from 1-4 p.m.

Open Broomball runs Wednesdays from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Civic Center. Admission is $4.75 per person or punch cards are available for $42.75 for a 12-punch card. This is a non-checking league, open to men and women, ages 18 or older. Players may divide into teams for a fun, competitive workout and challenging game play. Helmets, broomball stick/broom and broomball shoes are required. Shin guards and gloves are recommended. Limited equipment available on a first come-first serve basis.

Outdoor Skating Rinks: Crews continue flooding outdoor rinks. Individuals may skate on the rinks, as conditions allow. With the warmer temps experienced late last week, making good ice has been challenging. Check The Journal, Facebook and the City’s website for warming house opening announcements.

Winter/Spring Activities Guide will be distributed in the Journal Sunday, Dec. 30 with registration beginning Monday, Jan. 7 at 10 a.m. Be sure to check out our offerings. Our next brochure will be distributed late Dec. for Winter/Spring activities.
