German Park Playground Photoshoot – Please bring come and play at German Park Monday, Aug. 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The playground manufacturer that produced the custom German Theme Castle playground is going to be shooting professional photos to be featured in their National Catalog and needs children age 3-12 to be featured in the photographs! Participant’s parents must sign a waiver. Make sure that kids are dressed to play in attire that keeps the attention on the product, not the clothing! For this reason, children may NOT have any: hats, big logos on their clothing, skirts, flip flops, crazy patterned shirts or pants, swimsuits and no bare feet.

Monday Night Concert in German Park Aug. 7 starting at 7 p.m. Musical entertainment by Larry Mages and the Mages Family Band.

Wow! Zone in Mankato Field Trip is Friday, Aug. 10. Bus will leave from the Rec Center at 12 and return at 4 p.m. Cost is $20 Resident or $22/Non-Resident and includes transportation and admission for bowling, mini golf and laser tag, all in one place for a fun-filled afternoon! Register online or the Rec Center.

Get to Know Nature: Wild Edibles – People eat wild edibles for a number of reasons, including as a legitimate way of economizing food costs, as an excellent source of vitamins and minerals and in rare situations, essential for survival. Scott Kudelka, DNR Naturalist will teach individuals about some of the recognizable plants growing in the area like the common dandelion which can be used in salads or as a coffee-like beverage. Camp will take place Tuesday, Aug. 14 from 1-2 p.m. in Flandrau State Park Playground, next to the swimming pond. Please note: Entrance to Flandrau State Park requires a pass to enter.) Register online or at the Rec Center.

Summer Day of Play Thursday, Aug. 16 at German Park. Fun starts at 5:30 p.m. with inflatables, Rec on the Go and more, followed by outdoor movie CoCo at approximately 8:30 p.m. Join us for a variety of activities in a fun, festive atmosphere! This event is FREE to the public, thanks to the generous donations of our sponsors!

Water Access at Minnecon Park is open!

Be sure to catch our last full week of Rec On the Go, traveling to a location near you to play games, sports, crafts and other fun activities! Healthy Snacks will be provided for those 18 and under. Visit our website for dates and locations. This week, we will be making a special stop at Traulich Estates on Thursday, Aug. 9 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. This FREE program is possible through partnerships with Allina Health, ISD 88, Pro Kinship for Kids and the City of New Ulm Public Library and Park and Rec Departments.

Enjoy full moon view over Hermann Friday, Aug. 25. We are extending hours to 10 p.m. Take in this unique and picturesque view of the MN River Valley under moonlight! Regular admission applies.

Hermannfest – Saturday, Sept. 8 with Live musical entertainment starting at 11:30 a.m. in Hermann Heights Park, followed by Cannon firing and “Thunder in the Valley” 1812 Overture by the New Ulm Battery, Municipal Band in Harman Park starting at 6 p.m. Lots of fun, food, and Gemutlichkeit followed by spectacular fireworks display over Hermann Monument at approximately 8:30 p.m. Be sure to catch live music by Tim Machine starting at 7:45 p.m. in Harman Park and continuing after the fireworks!

Open Pickleball at Rec Center Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-2:30 p.m. Memberships, Punch cards, cards or Daily Admission apply.

Outdoor Pickleball courts at Lincoln park offer open play Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00-8:00 p.m. There is a lock box in Lincoln Park with equipment to use. Please call 507-359-8347 for the code to access. Courts will be closed Aug. 6-9 from 6-7:30 p.m. for a youth tennis camp!
