NEW ULM – Ten New Ulm FFA members completed their applications and were to receive their FFA State Degrees at the State FFA Convention this spring, but like most events, the convention was postponed.

Students earning FFA State Degrees this year are Russell Hellendrung, Lillian and Alice Lewandowski, Josh Liebl, Lexi Stein, Colby Wenninger, Brian Longtin, Kaitlyn Dauer, Carter Brandes and Gracie Altmann.

“For FFA members, earning their State Degree is the capstone to their FFA membership. These students have worked so hard,” New Ulm High School Agriculture/IT Instructor and FFA Advisor Kelsey Brandt said.

Several New Ulm FFA members that received their State FFA Degrees commented on their experience.

” I feel so honored to have the opportunity to be able to get my state FFA degree, FFA has helped me in so many ways and I am so grateful!,” said Gracie Altmann

Alice Lewandowski said “Getting my state degree means that I have demonstrated a high level of achievement in leadership and with my SAE (Supervised Agriculture Experience). My SAE was my job working at Runnings. The process to get your state degree is to fill out an application including records and then do an interview.”

“To me, receiving my state degree means being able to be recognized for my time and dedication put into various activities including chapter events, community service projects, and my SAE,” said Lillian Lewandowski. “In order to get my state degree I had to make or invest $2,000 into my SAE, attended 10 FFA activities above the chapter level, and had to have 25 hours of community service. I am happy that I received my State Degree and I can’t wait to see what opportunities it will open up for me down the road.”
